Fellowships for Creative and Performing Artists and Writers

Deadline to apply: October 5, 2025

These residential fellowships invite artists, writers, filmmakers, journalists, and other creatives to explore pre-20th century American history, literature, and culture. Fellows enjoy uninterrupted research time and the chance to join a vibrant community of scholars and creators.

Hench Post-Dissertation Fellowship

Deadline to apply: October 15, 2025 

This year-long residency supports recent PhDs in transforming their dissertations into books. Hench Fellows receive mentoring, participate in a manuscript review colloquium with leading scholars, and join a collegial network at AAS and beyond.

One to Two Month Residential Academic Research Fellowships 

Deadline to apply: January 15, 2026
