J19: The Journal of Nineteenth-Century Americanists is excited to announce that we will be hosting an online forum discussion of

Big Jim and the White BoyAn American Classic Reimagined

By David F. Walker and Marcus Kwame Anderson

This graphic novel reimagining of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published in 2024 and is well worthy of a discussion for a C19/J19 audience. This discussion (which follows as an excellent pairing for C19’s 2024 forum on Percival Everett’s novel James) will take place on:

Date: Tuesday, February 10th
Time: 2-3:30 pm PST / 3-4:30 pm MST / 4-5:30 pm CST / 5-6:30 pm  EST
(After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing a zoom link and other information about joining the meeting.)
Scholars will offer short 5-7 minute presentations, followed by a full conversation with the audience about this intriguing book for young people (and the rest of us!)
Participants will include the following scholars, representing experts in nineteenth-century American literature, African American literature, children’s literature, childhood studies, media and cultural studies, and reading and literacy:
J19 co-editor Brigitte Fielder will facilitate the conversation.
