CFP: AHSA Zoom Series, Spring 2026: Works in Progress by Emerging Scholars
For its Spring 2026 Zoom series, AHSA seeks to continue its commitment to fostering the development of graduate students. To this end, AHSA plans to put together 2-3 panels of 2-3 graduate students currently ABD and writing a dissertation.
The project should at least partially engage in the field of humor studies. Before the scheduled Zooms, chosen participants will circulate a 1-page, single spaced precis of their work, along with a sample of their object(s) of study (if desired). Participants/audience members in the Zoom will then engage in conversation about each project, potentially offering feedback and advice. In addition to networking with senior humor scholars, we also envision graduate students using this opportunity to network with each other and potentially forming dissertation writing accountability and support groups.
To apply, please send a 1-page proposal to To***********@*up.edu by January 15, 2026. The series dates will be between late March and the end of April. Your proposal should include the following: a 1-2 paragraph abstract of your dissertation (including its link to humor studies), your stage in the dissertation writing process, and a couple sentences stating how you see participating in the program as a useful tool in working on your doctoral research (e.g., accountability, feedback, networking). We will make decisions about the panels by the first week of February.
