Official Merchandise of Elmira 2017

The CMTS staff is looking forward to welcoming everyone attending Elmira 2017: the Eighth International Conference on the State of Mark Twain Studies.

While the conference has garnered a reputation for stimulating conversations and erudite papers, it is also known for producing a pretty good time.  In this “spirit,” CMTS has partnered with Finger Lakes Distilling and is offering a limited edition, single barrel bourbon whiskey for purchase on Friday night and Saturday night.  A number of their other fine products will be available for tasting.

The Whiskey Barrel for Elmira 2017

For all of you whiskey enthusiasts, the spirit is a wheat bourbon that has been aged for more than five years.  Members of the CMTS staff recently visited Finger Lakes Distilling and had the opportunity of tasting a number of different barrels and choosing the whiskey that will be offered at Elmira 2017. (Needless to say, we all had a good time!)  Finger Lakes Distilling has graciously offered to donate a portion of all proceeds from this barrel to CMTS.  It’s a win-win!  You get a bottle of whiskey and the gratitude of all the Twain scholars it supports!

Not only will whiskey be available, but a number of souvenirs will be available in the EC Campus Store, including the official Elmira 2017 “Assault of Laughter” T-shirt (available in black and grey) and mugs.

Another t-shirt will be available that celebrates CMTS’ ties with the Mark Twain Journal, featuring the iconic caricature of Twain himself.

If that wasn’t enough, CMTS has organized a book sale focusing on recent releases in Mark Twain scholarship.  These books will be offered at a reduced price in order to help disseminate these books into the Twain community.

The moral of the story: while we try to keep the money-changers out of the Temple, make sure to bring all of your pocket change!  It’s going to be a great conference.
